Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Track

The Atlas 4.0 Track is the latest offering from British helmet manufacturer Ruroc, that we have been lucky enough to stick our head into and put to the test. As the name suggests this variant of the Atlas 4.0, features some upgrades and changes allowing it to be certified for track use.

With that in mind, that is exactly where we headed – to the track to put the Atlas 4.0 track to the test and of course we also got some road kms in as well to see how the Track compares with other helmets we have previously tested in the Ruroc range.

Firstly what differentiates the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 from other helmets in the Atlas range. The Track 4.0 is certified for the track as the name suggests boasting ACU Gold, ECE 22.06 and DOT FMVSS 218 accreditation, it also features a D-Ring chin strap that replaces the Fidlock to make it track compliant.

The Atlas 4.0 Tracks shell is 15% lighter compared to the shell of the Atlas 4.0 and also features improved aerodynamics for track use. There is also a new visor upper seal which in our opinion looks a little naff, but does help create a better seal and reduce wind noise further over the previous model.

The new moisture wicking inner liner is good quality and feels to be a good and very comfortable place for the riders head. It again appears to be an improvement over our Atlas 4.0 which was already pretty comfortable, but it is good to see the continual improvement of the brand.

The Track is Ruroc’s first track focused helmet and it is a pretty impressive effort straight out of the gate. Developed in collaboration with Taylor Mckenzie the 2016 British Superstock champion.

So after a few outings on the road we headed off to participate in the first two levels of California Superbike School to test the metal of the offering on the track. We had expectation that this helmet would be noisier than our Atlas 4.0, but to our surprise we were wrong.

We can attribute this to the top visor seal and of course in the search for further aerodynamic advantage the new side ventilation covers. To be honest we had also taken note of the reduced noise during our road testing.

Even at high speed the Track performed well, with the helmet feeling planted on the riders head and not trying to lift off at higher speeds. Thee liner absorbed sweat well and remained comfortable and dry throughout the day.

On the road the Track was up to task and showed clear improvement of the already in our opinion very good Atlas 4.0. We like that we can interchange the visors between the models to pimp up the look of our helmet and only have to add the visor seal which can be purchased as a seperate accessory from the Ruroc website.

The Atlas 4.0 track  offers great peripheral and straight, line-of-sight visibility. That Ultra-wide field of view gives the rider the ability to see more of the track. The helmet comes standard with both a clear and dark tinted visor and the pin-lock is now included in the purchase price.

If we had to fault the Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Track it would be with the cover where the Shockwave can be inserted. It feels a little loose and flimsy, however with all our testing it hasn’t fallen out or become any looser.

We chose the Titan Gold variant of the Track 4.0, however the helmet is also available in Core Carbon, Inferno Red, Ice Blue and Viper Green to match to your bike and track day leathers. The Atlas 4.0 Track comes in sizes from Sm through to XXL as always you will need to check the measurement guide on the website to match to your head size.

As we always say, if you can overcome the hurdle that is not being able to see and touch the product in the flesh before you spend your hard earned dollars, it’s well worth the price of admission to look at a helmet from Ruroc.

The Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Track is available from at $950, which includes free shipping.  At the moment there are some great deals available, you can checkout the Track and the entire range of Ruroc helmets at the website online.
