Harley-Davidson Feature In The Movies

It has been a big few weeks for Harley-Davidson with their bikes featuring in two major movies that have just been released. The bike makers bikes feature in the latest Mad Max film Furiosa as well as being the star attraction of the film The Bikeriders.

Thursday night, Hollywood superstar Austin Butler was accompanied by Harley-Davidson motorcycles as he arrived at the Sydney Film Festival for the premiere of The Bikeriders.

As celebs took to the red carpet, a fleet of Harley-Davidson motorcycles stole the attention of guests, with the bikes roaring in unison as they arrived at the State Theatre in Sydney’s bustling CBD with Austin Butler in tow.

The Bikeriders captures a rebellious time in America when the culture and people were changing. After a chance encounter at a local bar, strong-willed Kathy (Jodie Comer) is inextricably drawn to Benny (Austin Butler), the newest member of the Midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals led by the enigmatic Johnny (Tom Hardy).

As a zeitgeist of culture, Bikeriders joins an impressive list of iconic films that have featured equally iconic motorcycles, like Pulp Fiction, Easy Rider, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and most recently, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

With the release of the latest adrenaline-fueled Mad Max film, Furiosa, Aussie film goers are in awe of the unstoppable fleet of Harley-Davidson motorcycles dominating the barren Wasteland.

Filmed across New South Wales, Harley-Davidson Australia supplied several iconic motorcycles for Chris Hemsworth’s Dementus and his army of eccentric riders. With customisation one of Harley’s most thrilling aspects, it’s not surprising Dementus (alongside his co-conspirators Mr Harley and Mr Davidson) chose these iconic bikes to ride across the apocalypse.

Harley-Davidson supplied the film with 12 bikes, including its famous Pan America S and Breakout 114. In addition, to dress the huge cast, they provided over $400,000 worth of Harley merch.

“[It was] Harley-Davidson’s brave decision to supply examples both new and old of their fine engineering, knowing full well the non-exclusivity of the apocalypse”, said Furiosa’s Academy Award Winning Production Designer, Colin Gibson.

“The barely-yet released Pan America, fitted with extended swing arm and camel-saddle stitched with hessian and human skin [and] Dementus’ dirty dozen sergeants well represented Harley; Fang on a chromed Chopper; the Octoboss takes to the air on an Ultra fitted with an airplane prop and held aloft on an octopus kite liberated from god-knows-where…”

Riders looking to start their motorcycle customisation journey are invited to head into visit their local dealer to chat H-D’s many options. Alternatively emerging riders looking to join the hype, Harley has recently released the Learner approved X350 and X500. The models have been designed to offer a comfortable riding experience for first time riders, blending form with function allowing riders to focus on the joy of riding.
