2024 CFMOTO 450NK

CFMOTO’s 450NK is the brands second model to be released into Australia of CFMOTO’s 450 family and the LAMS approved naked is a great little bike that represents incredible value.

CFMOTO launched the 450SR last year which is the full sports fairing version of this model which impressed us at the launch we attended in Albury. With the 450MT adventure bike and 450CL-C cruiser due to land locally very soon, we thought it only fitting to spend some time aboard the the 450NK and get to know it a little.

Sharp modern lines have the 450NK looking aggressive and with a uniquely styled LED headlight out front the 450NK strikes an unmissable stance. Looking around the bike all parts and components look well built and assembled and the CFMOTO offering is quiet an attractive package.

Out on the road the 450NK’s power plant is the star of the show. The 450NK’s 449cc parallel-twin, DOHC engine features a 270 degree crankshaft, delivering 37kW of power at 9,500rpm and 39Nm of torque at 7,600rpm.

The powertrain matched to a six speed gearbox featuring a slipper clutch is useable and punchy offering enough to have fun for more experienced riders, whilst still being user friendly and confidence inspiring for learner riders.

CFMOTO claim a top speed of 178km/h and although we did not test this, the 450NK did feel very willing cruising at freeway speeds or pulling out of twisty sections of road even with yours truly 100kg frame onboard.

The CFMOTO 450NK offers a firm ride which as a larger rider on a smaller bike we don’t particularly mind. The front suspension features 37mm upside down forks which allow 130mm of travel for the front wheel.

On the rear a single shock which matches the travel allowed on the front of the 450Nk does ensure that the ride is firmer than expected and this might well be a little exaggerated by the hard riding seat setup, which means you feel every bump as you whack your plums into the fuel tank (at least if you’re a guy). An upright riding triangle provides a relaxed position to pilot the 450NK too.

An upright seating position provides a relaxed position to pilot the 450NK with all controls being within easy reach. As far as hand controls go, there is nothing overly complicated for learner riders to be distracted with and all buttons are easy to engage with a simple touch.

The 5-inch curved TFT display looks schmick especially at the price point of this model and supports navigation projection, and the innovative T-box enables seamless vehicle-phone connectivity, bringing features like over-the-air (OTA) upgrades, security, and anti-theft functions, track recording, and real-time viewing of vehicle information through the CFMOTO RIDE app, right at your fingertips.

Now an amusing little anecdote on how well this App works. Yours truly was picking up our test bike from another publication that had the App set up on their mobile. As a bike reviewer when hoping on a new bike to test, the excitement fluids can flow freely and boyhood enthusiasm can take over.

As we arrived home, we received a phone call from the said reviewer we had just picked up the bike from notifying us of how briskly we had accelerated and what top speed we had achieved, which was well within the posted speed limit of course.

The conversation continued with the previous reviewer being able to identify via the app exactly where we had parked the bike and all this info he was notified of via his mobile device.

We are not going to speculate what the Chinese manufacturer does with all of this data, however this has to be a key feature in reducing insurance premiums which is the silver lining to this story.

Stopping the 165kg fully fuelled 450NK is a front single floating 320mm floating disc matched to a J.Juan radial caliper. The brakes are adequate and to be fair our test bike only had a couple of hundred kilometres on it but a little more bite may have been achieved with a first service adjustment.

The rear braking setup again is more than adequate with a 220mm single rear disc, and standard ABS. In the city the 450NK is a great commuter, easy to manoeuvre with its upright seating position and easy to lane filter and navigate with its nimble stature.

Out in the countryside the bike shows plenty of character and punches well above its tag as purely a LAMS bike.

CFMOTO appear to be on a real winner with the 450 platform and if you are a learner and would like to build a little more confidence the NK is available in 150 and 300 versions as well. Alternatively if you want to move up from the 450NK once you have your full riding licence the 800NK will be released in Australia shortly.
