2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR

A track focused performance machine, the Kawasaki ZX-10RR is one of those special performance bikes produced in limited numbers for those with an uncompromising want for adrenaline pumping speed.

Don’t let the term production superbike spook you though, as we found out during our road test, the limited production ZX-10RR is still manageable on public roads and as long as you have the self control to be able to tame your right wrist (good luck with that) you should be able to keep your licence and enjoy the experience.

The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR supersport motorcycle is a limited-production track-focused single-seat model, featuring forged Marchesini wheels, a numbered serial plate and a race-winning 998cc four-cylinder engine.

The Kawasaki Lime green livery is unmissable and ensures it stands out from the Kawasaki ZX-10R. As you cast a discerning eye around the green monster it is easy to ascertain that the ZX-10RR is pure superbike.

A four-stroke in line four DOHC 16 valve liquid cooled 998cc motor produces a staggering 201 horsepower (150kW) of scintillating power that propels the lime green beast. This power is matched to a six speed gearbox and quickshifter that works perfectly as long as you are mindful to be in the correct rev range whilst shifting.

There are preset riding modes as well as fully customisable modes that can be programmed or selected via the TFT display, however we chose to mainly stick with the Sport setting during our test period to unleash all the goodness that the ZX-10RR had to offer without getting to technically absorbed in customisable settings.

On the road this technology and power translates to effortless overtaking ability, an abundance of pick up to pull out of a corner and of course a willingness for the bike to want the rider to be on the throttle. The only downside to our test period was that we were unable to let the ZX-10RR loose on the track.

Of course there is also a host of electronic rider aids and tricked up gear that sets the ZX-10RR apart form the ZX-10R and make this limited edition bike a race bike you can purchase essentially off the showroom floor.

Those goodies include Electronic Cruise Control, Kawasaki Launch Control Mode (KLCM), Kawasaki Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS), Kawasaki Sport Traction Control (S-KTRC), Kawasaki Engine Braking Control, Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) (upshift & downshift), Kawasaki Corner Management Function (KCMF).

Combine these features with other special performance features including Pankl Pistons & Titanium Connecting Rods, Aerodynamic Downforce Generating Devices, Rideology the App Smartphone Connectivity, TFT Instrumentation and you can start to appreciate the technology and specification of this flagship model.

Suspension setup is unique to the ZX-10RR and very much track and performance focused. Up front Showa 43mm inverted balance free forks find a home which feature stepless rebound and compression dampening and spring load adjustability.

On the rear of the ZX-10RR a Showa horizontal back link set up with free gas-charged shock is housed. This set up again features stepless dual range compression, dampening and stepless rebound dampening with fully adjustable spring preload.

Again translating back to road performance the suspension setup is firm and offers the rider maximum confidence when pushing hard. When cruising the suspension isn’t too firm nor does it impact the rider negatively although being heavily performance focused.

A cast aluminium twin spar backbone frame utilises the engine as a stressed member to assist with enhanced torsional rigidity to increase cornering performance. This equates to the ZX-10RR feeling planted whilst being easily flickable at higher speeds for increased and more dynamic handling.

Forged aluminum Marchesini wheels round out the package with a seven-spoke, 17-inch design that centralizes weight around the hub area to reduce wheel inertia. They come dressed with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres for extra grip.

Stopping power is provided by a pair of four-piston Brembo calipers utilising dual 330 mm front discs whilst the rear benefits from a 220 mm disc and single-pot anchor. The braking package is enhanced with Kawasaki’s Intelligent anti-lock Brake System (KIBS) with braking performance being outstanding.

Kawasaki’s ZX-10RR represents the next level in sportsbike performance. Boasting plus 200Hp and minus 200kgs of weight this green missile takes aim at competitors such as Ducati’s Panigale V4 S, BMW M S1000RR and Yamaha’s R1M.

The good news is the green monster holds it’s own and although it comes with a premium price tag it pretty much is a race ready production bike that can still be a shit ton of fun on the road.

The limited edition Kawasaki ZX-10RR is priced from $42,160 ride away and is backed by a 2 year factory warranty. Good news is that Kawasaki is running a promotion until the end of Feb 2023 and you can pick up a $5,000 discount on remaining bikes in stock.
